John D. Conandes (Juan D. Escandon) is a writing and rhetoric professor at Florida International University. A fiction and professional writer, an arts and crafts enthusiast, and a writing and rhetoric and modern language(s) professor. John writes across genres, currently writing young adult (YA) and speculative fiction. He is the author of The Dust That Remains, his first young adult (YA) novel. He is currently writing The Slip, a speculative, absurd, and futuristic novel.

Originally from Santiago de Chile, Conandes arrived in the U.S. on September of 1991 to begin a journey that has led him to study language and literature, philosophy, and the craft of creative and professional writing. The author holds Master of Fine Arts in creative and professional writing, respectively.

Conandes was educated in the United States and has held various teaching positions throughout his career. He has taught at secondary and higher education institutions, mainly as an English and modern languages/Spanish instructor. He currently teaches writing and rhetoric at Florida International University.

In his spare time, the author plays soccer, does woodwork and stained-glass projects, draws, and paints. He resides near the ocean and enjoys cooking and playing guitar and attempts to sing when no one is around.
